History.  Some of the earliest residents of Sheldon were families moving west from Massachusetts , CT, Vermont and Eastern parts of New York.
The Turners , Hoards, Thomas , Stevens, Castles , Godfreys,Gates, Barbers, Varys, Strykers to name a few.
In the 1830`s and 1840`s there was an influx of French, Germans and Belgians that settled in Sheldon and lived in Sheldon Center, and built the Catholic church there.The Dutch Lutheran families came  and settled in Dutch Hollow.There was a school, a hotel, a church, a cemetery, a saw mill a cider mill and homes were built.
